The second round of the 2025 China GT Championship sees the competitors return to the home of Formula 1 in the country – the Shanghai International Circuit. After an exciting season opener that saw many battles and strategic masterpieces across the two races, the teams and drivers will now take what they’ve learnt and adapt it for the next chapter of the season.

Racing on the same course a month after the season opener gives the team a chance to not only improve their setups and tactics, but also to compete on the same circuit with raised temperatures as the climate has become slightly warmer over the last few weeks. That will give teams the opportunity to find a victory in their machinery where previously it may not have been possible. The chance of producing a more competitive weekend and steal a win from their opponents will not have been lost on the teams.

After a double victory in the opening weekend, we can expect FIST Team AAI to be strong once more in their BMW, and drivers Erik Johansson and Lin Yu will be hard to eclipse, but having been denied the win in race one due to a time penalty Climax Racing will want instant revenge for Elias Seppanen and Chen Fangping in their Ferrari 296.

We can expect more challenges across GT3 from Origine Motorsport and Winhere Harmony Racing in ProAm and 610Racing in Pro who were on the pace all weekend in April. They’ll be hoping for a push for victory in the two races of Round 2, as will UNO Racing who were cruelly robbed of a stronger achievement in both races after the worst misfortune they could have asked for in the closing stages of both events.

One of the stars of the first weekend of 2025 was the ever-impressive Betty Chen. The Chinese Taipei sensation was one of the serial overtakers of the event, and combined with the staple talents of Ugo De Wilde they will not only want to match the sister team of Johansson and Lin, but they will definitely be fighting to overtake them both on the track and in the standings.

The door should open for 33R Harmony Racing or GAHA Racing to snatch some silverware, but the favourites must surely be Origine Motorsport who with Jason Gu and Min Heng will not want to let this invitation slip through their fingers.

The GTC class will certainly showcase another exceptional battle between 610Racing and ACM by Blackjack, with the three teams currently confirmed likely to be mixing in amongst the GT3 battle once more. Elsewhere, Maxmore W&S Motorsport will be back in action hoping to extend their advantage after a convincing start to the year with Moritz Berrenberg and Finn Zulauf proving victorious in their Porsche Cayman, but surely Incipient Racing and GAHA Racing will up the ante and challenge for success in the GT4 ranks.
